Saint Anthony's Fire

Did you give us that hell –
Did you give us that hell we craved?
To a thousand screaming suns,
For discount graves dug
From the automated brimstone
To the river’s cleft and womb.
To go on tirades launched
For invisible naves in new churches,
Lay marrow between hot bricks.
You buried them all in open air,
And they can smell their own,
Rotting cores; the stifling sweet.
The farmer refusing to harvest,
Inhaling lilies cut from flesh.
The vultures won’t need you –
A boring vengeance fit for
Consumable American meat.
